Lee Vonai Goldwire Jr., affectionately known to all as just "Lee", was born in Mulberry, Florida, on March 12, 1950, to Katherine Young Hardy and Lee Goldwire, Sr. He was raised in a Christian home by his mother, "Kitty" and his grandmother, Bessie Kennon Cooper. A village of aunts, uncles, and other relatives all played a part in his upbringing.
Lee attended J.R.E. Lee School, Mulberry, Florida, where he received his formal education. He was employed by C.J. Bridges Company, providing strong labor for CSX Railroad. He worked there until his life changing injury, that left his body broken, but not his spirit.
Lee married Loretta Frederick, and together they made a home for themselves and their children in Nichols, Florida. They were married at Mt. Carmel Primitive Baptist Church, Nichols, Florida, the church that would become his home church.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother, his wife, and his brother, Henry Lee "Pumpkin" Hardy. He is survived by daughters: Sabrilla Smart, Lulu Kalaijah Goldwire, and Precious Berry; sons: Malek Goldwire, Leroy Townsend, and Henry Berry, who knew him dearly as "Pops", a generous and loving provider; aunts: Bessie Bender, Kate Young, Vida Kennon, Julie Kennon; a dear cousin and lifelong friend, Tony Satchel, loving cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
